The Cell meetings ends with the Witness Time. The activities and prayers done during this time are meant to keep the group attentive to what God is doing in their oikos, or sphere of influence. This is where ther group prays for people, and gives each other gentle accountability to live out the Great Commission in the world around us. It is also an opportunity for the group to plan activities where they can support each other in blessing and serving, or connecting with people in their oikos.
The Witness Time is meant to be:
- Outward Focused.
- Concrete.
- Fun and visionary.
- A reminder of what God is calling us to be and do in the world around us.
The Witness Time shouldn't be:
- a prayer time for every little prayer request the group can think of. This time and the prayers we pray here are focused on our mission to the world around us.
- a drudgery. We get to be a part of God's incredible mission to the people around us. Our Witness Time should reflect this enthusiasm and passion.
If you are leading the Witness Time for your group:
- DO have a plan that is more than simply prayer.
- DON'T forget to have an opportunity to ask people how they are doing on things they have asked accountability for.
- DO include a time of praying for your group's Blessing List.
Here are some of the kinds of things that can make up the Witness Time:
The Blessing List
The List of people God is asking the cell to bless and serve.
Every Cell Group maintains a "blessing list." This is a special kind of prayer list. It is not the running list of every prayer request the group has - praying for people who are sick, and for guidance, and all the other things. The group can keep a regular prayer list for those kinds of requests. The Blessing List is a special list that includes on one thing - a list of names. These names are the names of people in the group's oikos, or sphere of influence, that God is putting on the group's heart. These are people that group members believe God is asking them to be intentional about connecting with, blessing and serving, and in some cases inviting to the group.
The group will regularly (at most meetings) review the Blessing List and talk about what steps they are taking to obey God's invitation to bless and serve these people. Frequently the group should pray together for God's blessing to be on the lives of the people on the list, and for the group to have insight to know how best to serve them.
Other Prayer Activities
The Witness Time is a great time to do a variety of prayer activities focusing on the group's impact in the world.
