Potluck in the Park is a weekly event taking place at O'Bryant Square in downtown Portland. At 3pm, every Sunday, people are served a potluck style meal. If there are 2-3 of you, feel free to show up on any given weekend to serve. If you have more than 3, contact them and let them know so they can have an idea of what kind of volunteer support they will have. During Summer there is a high need for volunteer support. Check it out!
Union Gospel Mission is always open to volunteer support on several nights of the week. A smaller group of 4-5 works well with this service opportunity. All that is needed is a phonecall that you are interested in serving and they will put you on the list. They need kitchen support, people to serve food, and help with clean-up after serving the meal. They are always open to new faces and are great to work with.
Nightstrike is a weekly event that occurs in downtown Portland through Bridgetown Ministries. It's an open event that anyone can come and serve at. First, you will meet in a small church in downtown Portland to get direction on how the night will proceed. Then everyone goes in groups to serve, walk and pray along the streets and speak with people. Other groups of volunteers are set up to wash feet and cut hair (gloves included). It's an incredible opportunity to serve someone that is in difficult circumstances. Click on the Nightstrike link above to find out more information.
